Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Each May, we recognize and celebrate the Asian and Pacific Islander Communities. A broad term, Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia.

Like most commemorative months, May was chosen due to its significance within Asian-Pacific American history. May marks the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The transcontinental railroad was completed primarily through the labor of Asian/Pacific immigrants.

Join us in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the opportunity to learn more about the contributions and accomplishments of Asian Pacific Americans throughout history and today!
